A select group of 30 guests enjoyed an exclusive preview of Café La Oficina’s newest location on Thursday evening. The soft opening offered a first look at the café’s expanded menu and inviting atmosphere ahead of its official launch on March 10.
Located off Zapata Highway, the café features a cozy yet modern design, with dark-colored walls, lush green plants, and a dark wood L-shaped bar table. The intimate space accommodates up to 18 coffee lovers, creating a warm and lively ambiance as the aroma of Colombian-based coffee filled the air.
To complement the evening, a pastry box showcased a variety of baked goods from Sabor A Cielo, a Laredo-based coffee and pastry shop. Guests sampled croissants, muffins, and other sweet treats while sipping expertly brewed coffee from the café’s new equipment.
Co-owners Jahzeel Osorio and Jonathan Castillo worked behind the counter, ensuring smooth service while mingling with guests. Castillo explained that the soft opening served as a trial run to test equipment functionality and prepare for Monday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“The soft opening helps us fine-tune everything before the big day,” Castillo said. Reflecting on what has kept customers coming back since 2023, he emphasized the café’s focus on hospitality. “I think it’s the customer service. I’ve always believed that no matter how good the product is, it’s how you treat people that truly matters.”
Longtime customer Rebecca Buenrostro praised the new space, comparing it to the outdoor seating at the café’s north location. While enjoying a Tres Leches latte and a croissant, she expressed her enthusiasm for the expansion.
“This is a great step forward,” Buenrostro said. “Every drink I’ve tried here has been amazing—I’ve never had anything I didn’t love.”
Celica Garza, who attended the event with her mother, Letty Garza, and family friend George Cantu, has been a loyal customer since the café’s early days as a trailer-based coffee spot. Sipping her iced coffee, she reflected on the business’s growth.
“It’s incredible to see how far they’ve come,” Garza said.
With the grand opening set for March 10, Café La Oficina is ready to welcome more coffee enthusiasts to its newest location.
