Carson City is set to welcome a new sit-in coffee shop for the first time in years.
Press Cafe will open inside Cellar 8 Wine Bar at 408 N. Carson Street, filling the gap left by Java Joe’s, which closed nearly two decades ago. While Comma Coffee continues to operate on the south end of downtown, and Artisan Cafe closed in 2020, central Carson City has lacked a dedicated sit-down coffee shop for years.
The last time a sit-in coffee shop opened in the area was Old World Coffee Lab in 2019, located in the back of the Union. Larry’s Gourmet Coffee took over the former Carson Coffee space in 2023, but it primarily serves drive-thru and walk-in customers rather than offering a true café atmosphere.
Press Cafe owner Maxine “Max” Holland said the shop’s revamp is complete, and staff training will wrap up by the end of the month, preparing for the café’s official opening.
