The Light Meeting House Coffee Bar & Cafe is set to open its doors in the coming weeks at 1485 Oak St., the former location of Addella’s on Oak. The new coffee shop will offer both indoor and outdoor seating and serve a selection of coffee, bagels, and pastries.
Partners Rick Smith and Prudence Kelly began working on the café just a few months ago, with plans to open in the first week of April. Kelly noted that while some renovations were done, much of the furniture has been refurbished to maintain a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
Opening a coffee shop is a new venture for Smith and Kelly, who share a deep appreciation for coffee culture and the community vibe that coffee shops foster. Smith explained, “We spend a lot of time in coffee shops and love the coffee culture, so we thought it’s time to make the jump.”
When choosing a location, the pair wanted to find a neighborhood with a strong sense of community. After considering Clintonville, Smith realized the Near East Side shared similar qualities and felt like a place he knew well.
Though the café has yet to open, the neighborhood has already shown strong support, with curious residents stopping by and expressing excitement about the new business. Kelly said it’s clear people are eager to welcome the new coffee spot to the area.
