Mumbai-based Subko Coffee Roasters has won the Best Coffee Design 2025 – Packaging award at the Specialty Coffee Association Awards held at World of Coffee Dubai. The award recognizes Project Ceylanka, a collaboration between Subko and Sri Lanka’s Damn Fine Coffee Roasters, aimed at reviving Sri Lankan coffee on the global stage.
The winning entry featured a Red Honey Arabica cultivated in Kotmale, Sri Lanka, and produced by Damn Fine Coffee. More than just exceptional packaging, the project highlights South Asia’s growing influence in the global specialty coffee industry.
Sri Lanka was once a major coffee producer, supplying a third of Europe’s coffee by the 1870s. However, the Coffee Rust Epidemic of 1869 devastated the industry, leading to its shift toward tea cultivation. Today, Damn Fine Coffee is working to restore the country’s coffee heritage. The company collaborates with over 300 smallholder farmers, focusing on quality, sustainability, and global recognition.
“Sri Lanka is back. And this win is proof that our coffee deserves a seat at the global specialty table,” said Yasas Kodituwakku, CEO of Damn Fine Coffee. “We’ve spent years building a movement, not just a brand—partnering with farmers, refining our process, and proving that Sri Lankan terroir can produce coffee that stands alongside the best in the world.”
This victory marks a significant moment for South Asian coffee, reinforcing the region’s potential as a major player in specialty coffee worldwide.
