Trung Nguyên Legend Cafe, one of Vietnam’s most well-known coffee chains, is set to open its first Pacific Northwest location in Portland. The café, which has over 110 locations in Vietnam, four factories, and international branches in Shanghai and Los Angeles, will open its second U.S. outpost at 8435 SE Powell Boulevard. Franchise owner Brad Tran expects the café to be fully operational by summer.
The menu will include European-style espresso drinks, but the highlight will be traditional Vietnamese coffee. Customers can expect phin-brewed coffee with condensed milk, rich egg coffee, and cà phê chon, also known as kopi luwak—a controversial coffee made from beans that have passed through the digestive system of a civet cat. All coffee beans will be sourced directly from Buôn Ma Thuột, a city in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
The 1,800-square-foot Portland café will take over a space previously occupied by Pho Le II, a billiard hall and restaurant. In addition to coffee, Tran plans to offer a full restaurant menu featuring banh mi, pho, rice platters, and possibly fried chicken. “We’re still fine-tuning the food,” Tran said.
With this expansion, Trung Nguyên Legend Cafe continues to introduce Vietnamese coffee culture to a wider audience in the U.S.
