The Australian coffee industry’s top talent was celebrated at the inaugural Coffee Industry Heroes Awards, held during the Official MICE After Party on Saturday, March 22. The awards, supported by Venus Packaging, recognized outstanding individuals for their contributions to the coffee sector.
The Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) 2025 concluded on a high note, honoring professionals across three key categories: Community Champion, Next-Gen Talent, and Lifetime Achievement. Nominations were submitted by industry members, and an independent panel of experts selected the winners.
In addition to the new awards, MICE organizers paid tribute to Jasper Coffee Co-Founder Wells Trenfield, who passed away in May 2024. To honor his dedication to coffee and sustainability, he was posthumously awarded the Legacy Award. His partner and fellow Jasper Coffee Co-Founder, Merilyn Parker, accepted the award on his behalf.
“Wells would be deeply moved to see the heartfelt tributes written in his honor,” said Merilyn.
“He was deeply committed to sustainability—even as early as 1974, he had a biodynamic vegetable garden. He lived to improve both the planet and the lives of those around him. Wells was a leader, not a follower.”
The Coffee Industry Heroes Awards marked a memorable close to MICE 2025, celebrating the passion and dedication of professionals shaping Australia’s thriving coffee culture.
