Norwegian coffee roasting equipment manufacturer, Roest, has commenced accepting pre – orders for its much – awaited 3 – kilo – capacity production roasting machine, the P3000.
Priced at €32,900 EUR (equivalent to $35,486 USD at the time of writing), only 100 units of the P3000 will be available in 2025. Notably, 50 of these have already been claimed, and additional pre – ordered units will start shipping in 2026.
This fully automated convection roasting machine is Roest’s second major all – new model release. Eight years ago, the company launched sales of its first 100 – gram capacity model, mainly designed for sample roasting.
The P3000 comes equipped with Roest’s automatic first – crack detection feature. It also has an internal camera system that monitors and relays the changing color and size of the coffee beans as the roasting process unfolds. Inside the machine, over 15 additional sensors collect temperature and airflow data. A proprietary AI algorithm processes all this information, automatically adapting and executing roast profiles. Between – batch resets ensure efficient back – to – back roasting.
Roest CEO Trond Simonsen stated in today’s launch announcement, “We’ve dedicated the past few years to perfecting the P3000, incorporating all the knowledge gained from our award – winning sample roasters into production roasting. We refer to it as the ultimate overachiever because it’s not just a roaster; it’s a precision tool enabling businesses to roast more intelligently, quickly, and with unrivaled consistency.”
Accessing interior components for cleaning and maintenance requires no tools. After being assembled at Roest’s headquarters in Norway, the P3000 measures 31.8 inches in height, 17.5 inches in width, and 37.5 inches in depth. The company compares its footprint to that of a 2 – group commercial espresso machine.
The P3000’s arrival follows approximately two years after Roest’s previous hardware launch, the L100 model sample roaster. The L100 featured upgrades for compatibility with Roest’s online platform, which offers data storage, profile automation, and real – time graphical views of roasts.
The P3000 enters a growing market of small – batch electric roasters with a focus on automation. It serves as a higher – capacity alternative to the 1.5 – kilo – capacity Bellwether Shop Roaster and the 1.2 – kilo – capacity Aillio Bullet R2 Pro, both released last year. In late 2023, Swiss startup Mikafi unveiled the web – intensive 1.25 – kilo – capacity MikafiOne roaster. Aillio, the maker of the Bullet roaster, is still developing a fully automated 2 – kilo – capacity countertop production roaster called the AiO.
Founded in Oslo in 2014, Roest has since introduced three versions of its original machine, including the L100, which won a Best New Product award at the SCA Expo in Boston in 2022.
In the same year, the company unveiled its framework for a 2 – kilo prosumer design named the P2000, which was reintroduced a year later as the P3000. Roest showcased a working prototype of the P3000 at the SCA Expo in Chicago last year. After refinement and beta – testing by roasters at Norwegian companies like Tim Wendelboe and Hibi Kaffe, the final production version will be on display at Roest’s booth at the 2025 SCA Expo in Houston next month.
Lauren Alkire, Roest’s interim head of marketing, informed Daily Coffee News that the company also plans to release an accompanying electric afterburner later this year. “We’re really looking forward to presenting the final product,” Alkire told DCN. “We’ll be conducting offsite roasting sessions [during SCA in Houston] for those interested.”
