Norwegian firm Roest, known for coffee roasting equipment, is now accepting pre – orders for its much – awaited 3 – kilo – capacity production roasting machine, the P3000.
Priced at €32,900 EUR (equivalent to $35,486 USD currently), only 100 units of the P3000 will be available in 2025. Notably, half of these, 50 units, have already been claimed. Additional pre – orders will start shipping in 2026.
The P3000 is Roest’s second major new model. Eight years ago, the company launched its first 100 – gram capacity sample roaster. This fully automated convection roasting machine comes with several advanced features. It has Roest’s automatic first – crack detection, and an internal camera system that monitors and relays the changing color and size of coffee beans during roasting. Inside, over 15 sensors gather temperature and airflow data. A proprietary AI algorithm processes this information to automatically adjust and execute roast profiles. Between – batch resets ensure efficient back – to – back roasting.
Roest CEO Trond Simonsen said in today’s launch announcement, “We’ve spent years perfecting the P3000, integrating knowledge from our award – winning sample roasters into production roasting. We consider it the ultimate overachiever as it’s not just a roaster but a precision tool enabling businesses to roast more intelligently, quickly, and with unmatched consistency.”
For maintenance and cleaning, accessing interior components requires no tools. Assembled at Roest’s Norwegian headquarters, the P3000 measures 31.8 inches in height, 17.5 inches in width, and 37.5 inches in depth, with a footprint comparable to a 2 – group commercial espresso machine.
The P3000 arrives around two years after Roest’s L100 model sample roaster. The L100 had upgrades for compatibility with Roest’s online platform, offering data storage, profile automation, and real – time roast views.
The P3000 joins a growing market of small – batch electric roasters emphasizing automation. It offers a higher – capacity alternative to the 1.5 – kilo – capacity Bellwether Shop Roaster and 1.2 – kilo – capacity Aillio Bullet R2 Pro, both released last year. In late 2023, Swiss startup Mikafi introduced the web – intensive 1.25 – kilo – capacity MikafiOne roaster. Aillio, maker of the Bullet roaster, is still developing the fully automated 2 – kilo – capacity countertop production roaster, the AiO.
Founded in Oslo in 2014, Roest has released three versions of its original machine, including the L100, which won a Best New Product award at the 2022 SCA Expo in Boston. In 2022, the company unveiled the framework for a 2 – kilo prosumer design, the P2000, which was reintroduced as the P3000 a year later. A working prototype was showcased at the 2024 SCA Expo in Chicago. After refinement and beta – testing by roasters at Norwegian firms like Tim Wendelboe and Hibi Kaffe, the final production version will be on display at Roest’s booth at the 2025 SCA Expo in Houston next month.
Lauren Alkire, Roest’s interim head of marketing, informed Daily Coffee News that the company plans to release an accompanying electric afterburner later this year. “We’re excited to present the final product,” Alkire told DCN. “We’ll have offsite roasting sessions [during SCA in Houston] for interested parties.”
