International coffee giant Starbucks has joined forces with The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN). The GFN collaborates with partners across over 50 countries to redirect surplus nutritious food to those in need. Their new global partnership aims to “enhance food security and reduce food loss and waste.”
The partnership, along with a grant provided to the GFN, will focus on expanding food bank capabilities in key Asian countries such as India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam. The objectives are to support hunger alleviation, increase food rescue initiatives, and minimize food waste.
In April 2025, during Starbucks’ 15th annual Month of Good, partners (employees) in up to 50 markets worldwide will be encouraged to volunteer at local hunger relief and food rescue organizations. To back these efforts, Starbucks will donate 7 million meals through the GFN.
Lisa Moon, President and CEO of The Global FoodBanking Network, expressed her satisfaction, saying, “We are truly delighted to partner with Starbucks, an incredibly innovative company that has revolutionized the food and coffee service industry. Their commitment to reducing hunger and minimizing food waste showcases their leadership. Given the numerous challenges in addressing global hunger, this partnership can set an example for corporate – food – bank collaborations. Starbucks’ support will expedite food bank growth and efficiency, enabling them to salvage more food, distribute it to those in need, and safeguard our planet.”
Starbucks runs food rescue programs in over 30 global markets and works with several members of The Global FoodBanking Network, including SOS Thailand, Food Bank Vietnam, and Feeding America.
Kelly Goodejohn, Starbucks Chief Social Impact Officer, stated, “For the past 50 years, Starbucks has been dedicated to making a positive impact on communities and ensuring we give back more than we take from the environment. This is why we remain steadfast in our year – round commitment to hunger relief efforts. Through our FoodShare program, we adopt an innovative strategy to reduce food waste and support hunger alleviation by donating surplus food from our coffeehouses to local food banks. With all our year – round initiatives, our goal is to strengthen local food banks and ensure everyone has access to nutritious food.”
