Serbia’s specialty coffee chain, Kafeterija, has obtained fresh investment from Bulgarian private equity firm BlackPeak Capital. This infusion of capital is aimed at fueling the company’s expansion across Southeast Europe.
Established in 2014 and headquartered in Belgrade, Kafeterija holds the distinction of being the largest branded coffee chain in Serbia, boasting 47 outlets. The funds will be utilized to expedite the growth of its store network in Serbia and Montenegro, the latter being its only international market with four locations so far.
In a press statement, Kafeterija revealed that the investment will also enable it to enter the markets of Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania. Strategic acquisitions are also on the table as part of its growth strategy.
With the backing of BlackPeak Capital, Kafeterija has set its sights on scaling up to 150 stores across Southeast Europe and achieving annual sales of €70 million ($75.6 million).
Zoran Stanojević, the CEO and co – founder of Kafeterija, remarked, “This investment is a recognition of the dedication of our team and the loyalty of our customers. We’re now primed to speed up our growth and offer the Kafeterija experience to an even wider audience of coffee enthusiasts in the region.”
In addition to its espresso – based beverage offerings, Kafeterija serves a pour – over range featuring exclusive micro lots sourced from Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, as well as Kopi Luwak coffee from Indonesia.
According to World Coffee Portal’s Project Café Europe 2025 report, Kafeterija commands a 30% market share in Serbia’s total branded coffee shop market. As it pursues its expansion plans, Kafeterija will find itself in direct competition with some of the region’s major players, such as Romania’s 5 to go and Hungary’s Cafe Frei.
This marks BlackPeak Capital’s first investment in Serbia. The Sofia – based private equity firm has not divulged the amount of its investment but has announced that Managing Partner Ivailo Gospodinov will join Kafeterija’s Board of Directors to offer strategic guidance and expertise.
