Located just off Mass Ave, The Commissary Barber & Barista is a favorite spot for Indianapolis residents who appreciate high-quality coffee and fresh pastries.
Tyler Niehaus, a barista at The Commissary, highlights the important role coffee shops play in everyday life for many Indy locals. “A lot of memories are made over a cup of coffee,” he says, noting that many significant life events are celebrated in these spaces.
Niehaus also points out that as coffee drinkers have become more skilled with brewing at home, they now enter coffee shops with higher expectations. They seek quality coffee that is responsibly sourced. The Commissary Barber & Barista’s coffee blends are sourced from roasteries in Louisville, Brooklyn, and Berkeley, California.
The shop takes its commitment to sustainability seriously. Niehaus explains that The Commissary shares how much farmers are paid for their coffee before it arrives in the U.S., helping customers become more informed and responsible consumers.
In addition to coffee, The Commissary will be serving fresh pastries at the MOkAO Chocolate and Coffee Festival, taking place from April 11-13. Barista Vanessa Perez looks forward to showcasing her pastry creations at the event, saying, “It’s kind of a dream.”
