Coffee farmers affiliated with Baragwi Coffee Factory in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, are celebrating the highest cherry payout in the factory’s history for the 2024/25 season.
The factory, which operates 12 wet mills, reported an average payout of Sh133 per kilogram of coffee cherries. The highest-paying mill, Gachami Wet Mill, recorded a rate of Sh145.10 per kilogram, while the lowest, Rwambiti Wet Mill, paid Sh118.80.
Cyrus Chomba, manager of the Baragwi Coffee Factory Society, praised the farmers for their commitment to quality and adherence to good farming practices. He noted that regular training sessions and farmer field days have played a major role in improving output and earnings.
“I want to congratulate the farmers for their efforts in delivering quality coffee and practicing good agriculture,” said Chomba. “We’ve been offering regular training, and our farmers have responded positively.”
The strong payouts signal a promising future for coffee farming in the region and reward farmers for their dedication and collaboration with the factory.
