A new Starbucks drive-thru in Highbridge is quickly taking shape and is expected to open its doors this summer. The coffee shop, located within the Oaktree Business Park, has recently received final approval from Somerset Council.
The new 178-square-metre Starbucks site will feature a modern café with parking for 19 vehicles and two electric vehicle charging points. Construction is progressing, with the building’s external structure now complete. Work on the access roads and interior build is expected to follow soon.
Plans for the site were initially met with some resistance, as National Highways raised concerns about potential traffic impacts on the Edithmead roundabout in Burnham-On-Sea. However, after modeling results showed that the Starbucks outlet would not significantly affect local traffic, National Highways withdrew its objections. Had they not, the plans would have needed a final decision from central government.
The new Starbucks will be located next to the Highbridge Howdens store and close to the Highbridge McDonald’s and Greggs drive-thru locations. It will be similar in design to the Starbucks at Dunball roundabout, which opened in 2023. The site is also near a Costa Coffee drive-thru, which opened in December 2021, and the nearby Highbridge Travelodge hotel.
