A dispute between female promoters of Singha and Chang beers escalated into violence at a coffee shop, leaving one injured and several others involved in a brawl. The incident, captured on CCTV, unfolded when a customer, reportedly intoxicated on Chang beer, assaulted the Singha promoter, prompting another patron to intervene, resulting in further altercations.
According to Chen, the 51-year-old drinks stall manager, the conflict erupted over competitive tensions between the two beer brands. The altercation, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, saw tables and chairs overturned before authorities intervened.
Efforts to defuse the situation by the promoters themselves proved futile. Despite attempts at mediation, the brawl persisted until law enforcement arrived at the scene. Fortunately, no other customers sustained injuries during the altercation.
The injured Singha promoter was subsequently transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment. Authorities are currently investigating the incident with the assistance of two men, aged 58 and 65.
The root cause of the altercation, speculated to involve personal grievances between the promoters, underscores the intensity of competition within the local beer sales industry.
