In response to numerous reports of injuries, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of over 580,000 units of JoyJolt Drinkware Declan Single-Wall Glass Coffee Mugs. Sold in sets of six, these 16-ounce mugs have been linked to incidents involving breakage when exposed to hot liquids, resulting in burns and lacerations.
The Brooklyn, New York-based glassware brand JoyJolt, owned by MM Products, Inc., initiated the recall following reports of 56 injuries, some severe enough to require stitches or surgery. The mugs, identified by model number JG10242, were primarily distributed through Amazon and JoyJolt’s website between September 2019 and May 2022. Manufactured in China, these single-wall glass mugs have drawn attention due to their tendency to break or crack at the base under thermal stress.
According to JoyJolt’s recall notice and CPSC reports, more than 100 incidents of breakage have been documented, resulting in injuries ranging from burns to cuts. Seven of these injuries required medical intervention. JoyJolt has urged consumers who purchased these mugs to cease using them immediately and has provided instructions for obtaining a refund.
Founded in 2014 by brothers Martin and Joel Mittelman, JoyJolt initially aimed to offer high-quality, contemporary glassware at affordable prices. The company has since expanded its product line to include a variety of home-focused glassware products, available on platforms like Amazon.
