In a significant advancement for sustainable packaging, Greiner Packaging and Constantia Flexibles have announced the launch of a home compostable coffee capsule for the European market. Greiner is responsible for the injection-moulded capsule body, crafted from a compostable polymer that ensures coffee freshness and is compatible with standard coffee machines. Meanwhile, Constantia contributes the EcoPressoLid, a paper-based lid designed for optimal sealing.
Taner Ertan, global business development manager at Greiner Packaging, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “We are committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable packaging solutions. Our collaboration with Constantia Flexibles on the home compostable coffee capsule embodies our shared vision for a greener future. This innovative product not only meets the high expectations of eco-conscious consumers but also sets a new standard in the industry. We are proud to contribute to a solution that balances convenience and environmental responsibility.”
The EcoPressoLid provides a robust barrier to oxygen, ensuring superior sealing and excellent brewing performance for compostable coffee capsules. This versatile lid can seal both the top and bottom of the capsules and is compatible with prevalent capsule filling and sealing machinery.
Peter Wallach, Senior Vice President at Constantia Flexibles, remarked, “The EcoPressoLid capsule liner is a significant step towards more sustainable coffee consumption. Our partnership with Greiner Packaging enables us to deliver a complete, TÜV Austria certified solution to our customers.”
Both the capsule body and lid have earned the “OK Compost Home” certification from TÜV Austria, recognizing their compliance as a cohesive system.
This collaboration highlights how innovation and partnership can propel sustainability efforts forward. By leveraging their combined expertise, Greiner Packaging and Constantia Flexibles have created a compostable coffee capsule solution that caters to environmentally-conscious consumers and coffee suppliers seeking convenient, sustainable options within the circular economy.
