One of the distinct differences between gas-powered and electric vehicles lies in the refueling process. Gas cars benefit from a robust infrastructure of over 200,000 stations nationwide, ensuring convenience and accessibility for drivers. In contrast, electric vehicle (EV) owners often face challenges finding accessible charging stations, frequently located in inconvenient spots away from amenities.
Recognizing this disparity, Mercedes-Benz’s EV charging division has forged a strategic alliance with Starbucks to revolutionize the EV charging landscape. The initiative aims to install 400 kW DC fast-charging stations at more than 100 Starbucks locations across the United States. Initially focusing on Interstate 5, a key West Coast route from Canada to Mexico, these stations will provide a seamless experience for EV drivers looking to recharge both their cars and themselves.
This collaboration marks Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to expanding its global network of EV charging hubs, with plans to establish 2,000 stations worldwide. Partnering with Simon Property Group and now Starbucks underscores their strategy to enhance convenience in urban centers and critical travel corridors.
Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, emphasized the partnership’s impact on EV drivers, stating, “The collaboration between two leading brands like Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks will elevate the charging experience for all.”
These ultra-fast charging stations, capable of fully charging vehicles like the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE RWD in under 7 minutes, align with Starbucks’ dedication to sustainability and customer convenience. This initiative builds on Starbucks’ previous collaborations, including a partnership with Volvo to deploy fast-charging EV stations along major routes.
By integrating high-speed EV chargers into Starbucks locations, Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks aim to redefine convenience for EV drivers, ensuring they can refuel and refresh with ease during their journeys.
