El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has introduced a new coffee brand, “Bean of Fire,” aimed at promoting the country’s premium coffee. Bukele described the initiative as a personal passion project, focusing on producing high-quality coffee entirely made in El Salvador.
Supporting Local Businesses
Bean of Fire goes beyond business, donating 200 pounds of coffee, sugar, and 8,000 cups daily to Salvadoran enterprises. This initiative supports local entrepreneurs and encourages Salvadorans abroad to invest in their homeland. Notably, the brand has partnered with Vista Hermosa, a café-turned-hostel in Suchitoto run by a returnee, providing free coffee and highlighting the potential for successful businesses in El Salvador’s small-farm coffee industry.
Encouraging Returnees
Bukele has also offered support to returning Salvadorans, pledging to supply coffee for a year to anyone who returns to open a café. This effort aims to revive the coffee industry, which once significantly contributed to the country’s GDP.
This announcement follows a recent controversy involving former U.S. President Donald Trump, who made incorrect claims about El Salvador’s crime reduction efforts. Bukele responded to Trump’s accusations with a focus on his new coffee venture.
