Coffee Shop Creates Opportunities for All at West Cork Jesters

by Jessica

West Cork Jesters, a nonprofit organization established in 2018 to promote inclusivity in sports, has recently expanded its reach with a new venture. In 2023, the group inaugurated a café in their Durrus clubhouse, marking a significant milestone in their mission to support individuals of all abilities.

The café, operated by club members who have completed a comprehensive health and safety training, now offers a selection of coffees, teas, and an array of locally baked cakes and scones. The coffee shop welcomes visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing a pleasant setting with off-road parking, a charming green space, and stunning views.

Susie Nicholson, a spokesperson for the organization, highlighted the positive impact of the project. “This initiative is incredibly empowering for our young adults,” Nicholson explained. “Each week, our Jester representatives come together to participate in the café’s operations, offering them invaluable work experience, particularly for those who may not have had such opportunities before.”

Nicholson also praised the volunteers, noting their enthusiasm and dedication. “Our volunteers are a delight—eager to make every visit memorable and ensuring you receive a warm and friendly welcome.”

All proceeds from the café support the ongoing maintenance of the clubhouse. While payments are accepted as cash donations, the club also provides an option for contributions through an iDonate page.
