47 Coffee House, operated by Adam Ho and Hsin Ke Ho on Queen Street, will shut down on August 24. The owners are seeking someone to take over the business.
Adam Ho cited several issues for the closure, including the increased family visa income requirement, which rose from £18,000 to £29,000 in April. Ho worries that a potential increase to £38,700 could make it impossible for them to meet the criteria.
Ho also mentioned the impact of a new Starbucks opening on Heys Lane, which was approved in April. He criticized the decision, suggesting it undermines local independent businesses and might face negative reactions from the community.
“We’re sad to leave,” Ho said, “but continuing seems increasingly difficult due to visa constraints and competition.”
