Bradford Council has approved plans for a new drive-thru coffee shop in Ben Rhydding, despite considerable local opposition. The proposal, which involves demolishing the Original Factory Shop, faced criticism from over 160 residents and a petition of 61 signatures.
At a recent Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel meeting, councillors voted in favor, citing the need for investment and regeneration. The EG Group Ltd and Burley Developments Ltd submitted the application. The café, expected to create 25 full-time jobs, will be located at the A65 and Wheatley Lane junction, next to an existing service station.
Planning officer Mark Hutchinson noted the new building would be smaller and include 22 parking spaces, with four for electric vehicles. Concerns about increased traffic were addressed by suggesting the café would mainly attract passing trade.
Local resident Andy Stewart argued against the development, proposing instead that the site be used for affordable housing, citing existing congestion and the proximity of a new McDonald’s.
