Choon Kee Hainanese Coffee, a cherished brand from Malaysia, is set to make its Singapore debut from August 23 to September 2. This 11-day pop-up, hosted at Great Nanyang’s Somerset outlet, offers Singaporeans a unique opportunity to experience the renowned coffee and tea offerings without the need to travel across the Causeway.
Founded in 1955 as a modest roadside stall in Perak, Choon Kee has developed a dedicated following over the decades. This pop-up marks their first venture into the Singapore market.
Patrons can look forward to distinctive beverages such as the Barley Kopi and Teh series, along with the Haikou Breeze—an innovative Yakult drink flavored with Himalayan salt, lemon, and sea salt. Accompany these drinks with Great Nanyang’s renowned Kaya & Butter Toast and Choon Kee’s Kaya spread, made with duck eggs.
Foo Swee Yong, the third-generation heir of Choon Kee, will be in Singapore to personally serve these iconic drinks, giving customers a chance to meet the man behind the 70-year-old recipes.
Choon Kee’s flagship store is located in Taiping, Perak, and they frequently host pop-ups in Kuala Lumpur bazaars like Pingmin and Halo markets, where they often draw long lines. Expect a similar enthusiastic response in Singapore.
