Starbucks is gearing up to establish a new coffee shop in DuBois, with site preparation and construction slated to commence soon. The company anticipates completing the interior work by April 15, 2025.
The new Starbucks will be situated near Midway Drive, marking another milestone in the company’s expansive growth strategy.
The story of Starbucks began in 1971 in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. The original store offered freshly roasted coffee beans, tea, and spices from around the globe, marking the start of what would become an international coffee empire.
The name “Starbucks” was inspired by the classic novel “Moby-Dick,” reflecting the seafaring heritage of early coffee traders.
A decade later, Howard Schultz, then a young New Yorker, discovered Starbucks and was immediately captivated by its coffee. Joining the company in 1982, Schultz’s visit to Milan in 1983 was pivotal. He was inspired by the Italian coffeehouse culture and sought to infuse Starbucks with a similar warmth and sophistication.
In 1987, Starbucks transitioned from selling coffee beans to serving brewed coffee in-store, adopting green aprons to symbolize this new phase. The company’s expansion followed, first to Chicago and Vancouver, then California, Washington, D.C., and New York.
By 1996, Starbucks had crossed the Pacific, opening its first store in Japan. This was followed by European and Chinese expansions in 1998 and 1999, respectively.
Today, Starbucks operates nearly 39,000 stores globally, serving millions of customers each week and deeply integrating itself into communities around the world.
The company remains committed to its mission: “With every cup, with every conversation, with every community – we nurture the limitless possibilities of human connection,” as stated on their website.
Starbucks has solidified its position as the leading roaster and retailer of specialty coffee, continuing to thrive as a global coffeehouse giant.
