Costa Coffee has reinforced its commitment to supporting local communities with a £1,000 donation to the Bournemouth Bobcats, an American Football team based in Dorset.
This grant, part of Costa Coffee’s Community Grants programme, will alleviate financial barriers for players, enabling the club to waive membership fees for those who might otherwise be excluded. This contribution is a key aspect of Costa Coffee’s broader initiative this summer to celebrate and support local sports organizations across the UK.
As part of its broader efforts, Costa Coffee is distributing £50,000 across 50 community sports groups. This initiative underscores the company’s investment in nurturing future sporting talent and highlights its role as the Official Coffee Partner for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Bournemouth Bobcats, a fixture in the local sports landscape since the 1980s and currently competing in Division One of the British American Football Association League, will benefit significantly from this support. The financial boost comes at a time when the positive effects of sports on mental health are increasingly acknowledged.
Keith Barnes, General Manager of the Bournemouth Bobcats, conveyed his appreciation: “We are thrilled to be nurturing a team that values unity and support on and off the field. The Costa Coffee Community Grant is crucial in keeping our grassroots team accessible, particularly as we witness the growing impact of sports on mental well-being.”
The Bournemouth Bobcats were selected for this grant by the Costa Coffee store in Primark on Commercial Road, Bournemouth. The store manager, after observing the team’s financial needs through social media and attending several games, recognized that the £1,000 grant would significantly aid the team’s travel and inspire the younger generation.
This donation exemplifies Costa Coffee’s ongoing dedication to community support. Over the past three years, the Community Grants programme has allocated nearly £180,000 to diverse causes, underscoring the company’s commitment to social responsibility.
Jo Jennings, Community Co-Ordinator at Costa Coffee, remarked: “We are excited to support the remarkable efforts of the Bournemouth Bobcats. At Costa Coffee, we value the enthusiasm and dedication of local sports clubs and are pleased to offer our assistance through our Community Grants programme.”
