Sisters, OR — Sisters Coffee Company is marking its 35th anniversary with a brand refresh and a special promotion. On Friday, September 6, customers who purchase drinks at the company’s cafes will receive a free 12-ounce bag of Black Butte Gold whole bean coffee. This promotional offer, available at the company’s locations in Sisters, Bend, and Portland, celebrates the company’s long-standing presence and introduces its new recycled packaging.
Founded in 1988 by Joy and Winfield Durham, Sisters Coffee Company started in a small wooden cabin on Hood Avenue in Sisters, Oregon. The company, which initially faced skepticism about its longevity, has grown into a well-established brand with a thriving wholesale business and additional locations in Portland’s Pearl District and Bend’s Old Mill district.
Justin Durham, the company’s president, along with his siblings Jared and Jesse Durham, now manage the business. Reflecting on the company’s early days, Justin Durham highlighted the pioneering spirit of their parents and their critical insights into the specialty coffee market. “It’s hard to believe that it’s been 35 years since our parents launched Sisters Coffee Company and made their dream of starting their own coffee roasting company in Central Oregon a reality,” he said. “We’re so happy to honor that legacy while also keeping Sisters Coffee Company fresh and vibrant for the future.”
The company’s success is attributed to the Durham family’s dedication and the supportive community in Sisters. Joy Durham’s hospitality and Winfield Durham’s work ethic laid the foundation for a successful venture, a sentiment echoed by Justin Durham. “Mom had the hospitality and Dad had the work ethic. They were a great team that way. It resonated with the town and proved to be incredibly viable,” he explained.
The company’s commitment to quality and community has been strengthened by family and employee contributions. Justin Durham praised his wife, Leigh-Anne, for transforming the original café from a modest “shed” into a prominent local landmark. He also acknowledged the hard work of his siblings, noting, “It takes a team, it takes a family, and it takes a supportive community, and that’s what Sisters has always been.”
In addition to the promotional giveaway, the rebranding includes new recycled packaging for their coffee beans, marking a step toward sustainability. Jesse Durham, the Chief Strategy Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the rebrand and the company’s future. “We really just want to celebrate the longevity of Sisters Coffee Company while also saying thank you to our customers, who have always been a big part of our story,” she said. “My brothers and I are all really proud of the way everything has come together. We’re so thankful for the past 35 years and so excited about what’s ahead for Sisters Coffee Company.”
The free Black Butte Gold coffee bags will be available while supplies last, featuring a blend of beans from Brazil, Papua New Guinea, and Colombia, originally created by the founders 35 years ago.
