Long Island, NY — Hudson Valley-based coffee chain Ready Coffee is expanding its footprint to Long Island following the purchase of ten former Dairy Barn locations. RC LI LLC, an affiliate of Ready Coffee, acquired nine properties in Nassau County and one in Suffolk County for just over $9 million, according to the broker handling the transactions.

Ready Coffee, which launched its first express café in Wappingers Falls in 2019, now operates additional locations in Newburgh, LaGrange, and Hyde Park. Founded by former hedge fund manager Jed Bonnem, the chain prides itself on small-batch roasting, which it cites as a key factor in its high-quality coffee offerings.

The Dairy Barn brand originated in 1961 when Dieter Cosman, son of Swiss immigrant Edgar Cosman, transformed his family’s dairy business into a successful chain of convenience stores. The Dairy Barn chain, known for its distinctive red silo, once operated up to 70 locations across the region.

The original Dairy Barn dairy, Oak Tree Farms, was sold and repurposed in 2019 into a 246-unit condominium community called the Seasons at Elwood, developed by the Engel Burman Group.

In 2009, the Cosman family sold 38 Dairy Barn locations to Simi Enterprises, a Long Island City-based company that managed the stores through its Loop Food Management affiliate. Many of these properties were subsequently leased or sold to independent operators.

In early 2021, Simi Enterprises reached an agreement with Greek From Greece (GFG) to lease 28 of the former Dairy Barn sites. However, GFG returned the stores to Simi in November 2022 after operating them for nearly two years. Simi then listed 17 of these properties for sale, managed by Clem Coté of Sovereign Realty Group in Syosset.

The acquisition by Ready Coffee marks a significant expansion for the coffee chain and introduces its offerings to new markets on Long Island.
