New England Coffee Co. has introduced a new line of BPI-certified compostable coffee pods, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional single-serve plastic pods. Developed in partnership with PurPod, these new pods are designed to minimize plastic waste while maintaining the quality of the coffee.
The revamped pods feature a fully compostable design. The outer lid is crafted from commercially compostable materials, while the upcycled ring is made from coffee bean skins, also known as chaff, and other compostable substances. Additionally, the mesh filter is made from plant-based materials.
All of New England Coffee’s single-serve flavors, including favorites such as Breakfast Blend, Blueberry Cobbler, Caramel Macchiato, and Hazelnut Crème, are now available in this new pod format.
Jim Kaloyanides, senior vice president and general manager of New England Coffee, expressed enthusiasm about the launch: “We are excited to announce that two of our major brand goals—to perfect our coffee’s taste and to use more eco-friendly packaging—have come together with the introduction of our compostable pods.”
Kaloyanides is part of the family that founded New England Coffee in 1916. The company is currently owned and operated by Reily Foods, a fifth-generation, family-owned business.
