Compass Coffee is set to open a new location just a few blocks from its existing Ballston café, replacing the recently closed Slipstream coffee shop.
The new Compass Coffee outlet will occupy the space at 4300 Wilson Blvd, which was vacated by Slipstream last week. In a notification to tenants, property management confirmed the transition, stating, “We are writing to inform you that Slipstream has officially closed, however, Compass Coffee will be taking over with a tentative opening date of Saturday, September 21st. While we wish Slipstream the best in their future endeavors, we are excited to welcome Compass as a new addition to the building.”
The existing Compass Coffee at 4100 Wilson Blvd will continue operations as usual. According to a manager at the current location, the new café is expected to have a soft opening by the end of September.
With 19 locations across Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia, including establishments in Rosslyn and on Langston Blvd, Compass Coffee is expanding its footprint. The new Ballston location will heighten competition with Starbucks, which operates several nearby stores at 901 N. Stuart Street, 801 N. Glebe Road, 1000 N. Glebe Road, and 4000 Wilson Blvd, as well as additional outlets in a hotel and grocery store.
