MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Google Philippines and Commune Cafe have partnered to introduce a limited-edition beverage, the Special Bibingka Latte, available from September 12 to September 26, 2024. This innovative coffee drink draws inspiration from the traditional Filipino rice cake, bibingka, and highlights the capabilities of Google’s generative AI, Gemini.
The Special Bibingka Latte features a blend of Commune’s espresso and steamed milk infused with classic Filipino holiday flavors, including salted egg, queso de bola, and a hint of torched banana leaf. Gemini played a crucial role in the creative process, helping Commune’s baristas brainstorm and develop this seasonal offering.
“Using Gemini streamlined our creative process significantly. Accessing Gemini’s vast knowledge made the experience both enjoyable and collaborative,” said Rosario Juan, chief extractor of coffee at Commune Cafe.
As part of this collaboration, Google provided training for Commune’s staff on the potential of GenAI, focusing on how technology can enhance creativity. Following this, the baristas participated in a workshop, where they utilized their new skills to craft drink concepts with Gemini’s guidance.
“This project celebrates the delicious possibilities that emerge when human creativity and AI work together,” remarked Mervin Wenke, head of Communications and Public Affairs at Google Philippines.
The Special Bibingka Latte not only highlights unique Filipino flavors but also exemplifies the evolving relationship between technology and creativity in everyday experiences like coffee-making.
