North Lincolnshire-based private label coffee roaster Lincoln & York has announced ambitious plans to double its business size by 2026.
Founded in September 1994 by James Sweeting and Simon Herring, Lincoln & York has become one of the UK’s largest independent coffee roasters. The company sources coffee from over 40 origins and roasts approximately 9,000 tonnes annually at its 6,000-square-foot facility. It positions itself as the “discreet manufacturer” for 150 hospitality and retail clients across the UK and Europe.
In a blog post celebrating its 30th anniversary, Lincoln & York outlined its goal to increase production volume, backed by further investments in roasting and packaging facilities. “We’ve come a long way in a relatively short time. Having experienced consistent growth over the past 30 years, we aim to double the business by 2026, supported by ongoing investments in the roastery, including a £1 million investment this year,” stated Ian Bryson, Managing Director.
Since 2020, Lincoln & York has invested over £4 million ($5.3 million) in upgrades to its production site, including the installation of a new 600kg Brambati roaster, a high-speed retail packing line, new storage facilities, and a state-of-the-art coffee lab.
The company is also committed to sustainability; its roastery achieved Carbon Neutral status in 2023 from the net-zero campaign group One Carbon World. Additionally, Lincoln & York plans to introduce 100% recyclable packaging by the end of 2024.
While Lincoln & York reported a 9% year-on-year decline in sales to £42.9 million ($57.3 million) for the year ending February 2, 2024, it also noted a pre-tax profit of £1.9 million ($2.5 million), a significant improvement compared to a loss of £522,798 ($698,837) the previous year.
