David Cogen, a consumer tech vlogger from Brooklyn, New York, has transitioned from filming videos in coffee shops to launching his own café, Coffee Check, which opened in Greenpoint late last month.
The new café spans approximately 2,500 square feet, featuring a dedicated 500-square-foot area for a soon-to-open coffee roastery. An additional 1,000 square feet has been repurposed as a video production studio available for rent.
Cogen’s café also includes a visually appealing commercial kitchen that vloggers can use as a set for food-related content. While the café is set to become the home base for Cogen’s YouTube series, The Unlockr, he admits that managing the shop has limited his video production time. “I haven’t been able to [create Unlockr content] for a while, frankly,” he told Daily Coffee News. “But I’m finally starting to get back to making videos while still managing the café.”
As a Williamsburg resident with deep connections in Greenpoint, Cogen has drawn from years of observing the local coffee scene to inform the design and concept of Coffee Check. He plans to use his own café as a source for coffee in his reviews while continuing to explore other coffee shops for his audience.
