Odysea Coffee Roasters Educates Granite Staters on Honduran Coffee

Odysea Coffee Roasters in Bristol is educating locals about the rich coffee culture of Honduras, guiding them through the process from bean to cup.

“It’s a community place,” said Francisco Galeano, co-owner of the shop alongside Gabrielle Duba. They opened Odysea Coffee in December 2023, aiming to create a welcoming space for coffee lovers.

“A lot of Latinos travel 45 minutes to an hour just to come here because they know they can connect with him,” Duba said, referring to Galeano.

Galeano discovered his passion for coffee while helping on his grandfather’s coffee farm in Honduras. He met Duba while she was working at a bilingual school in Honduras, where their shared love for coffee blossomed.

After spending time in Bristol during the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple decided to settle there and share their love of coffee with the community that felt like home.

“I always tell people I started with love,” Galeano shared.

Duba reflected on their journey: “It was wonderful to see that community here in New Hampshire. Growing up here, I didn’t see this type of connection, but if you look closely, the people are there.”

A Family Affair

Odysea Coffee represents both love and family. Duba’s parents assisted in renovating the shop, while Galeano’s parents in Honduras help select the beans used in their offerings.

“It’s not just regular coffee; it has a story,” Galeano explained. “Just like wine, coffee contains various flavors based on its growth location, region, and soil. We aim to educate customers about the difference between the coffee we serve and other options.”

Their mission is to shift how Granite Staters view coffee by showcasing the Honduran farmers who hand-select the beans.

“Now, when you drink a coffee and say, ‘Oh, this is from Francisco Galeano’s farm,’ you connect directly with the farmer,” Galeano said.

Immersive Experiences

Odysea Coffee is also offering trips to Honduras for locals interested in witnessing how coffee beans are gathered firsthand.

For those unable to travel, a visit to Odysea Coffee can provide a taste of that experience.

“It’s delightful to see how people walk in knowing little about coffee, but by the time they leave, Francisco has given them a small education because that’s his passion,” Duba concluded.
