In Christchurch, various individuals contribute to their communities through volunteering, keeping public spaces clean, or performing good deeds. For the team at C4 Coffee, serving the local community through high-quality coffee has become their hallmark.
Operations Manager Oliver Griffith-Jones takes pride in the nearly 30-year legacy of his family’s café and roasting business. “My father, Guy Griffith-Jones, founded C4 Coffee in 1996. It began as a simple café, but we quickly expanded into roasting our own coffee. Our tagline, ‘beans, machines, and all things coffee,’ reflects our commitment to everything from wholesale supply and retail equipment to crafting exceptional coffee at our café,” he explained.
C4 Coffee has played a pivotal role in developing the specialty coffee scene in Christchurch. According to Oliver, the business continually seeks to improve quality through careful sourcing and roasting practices, enhancing the overall customer experience. “We’re always looking for ways to enhance our quality, from roasting to sourcing to brewing,” he stated.
The café’s unique layout integrates the roastery, featuring a large glass window that allows customers to observe the roasting process firsthand. “It gives them a real in-depth experience,” Oliver remarked, emphasizing the connection between the craft of coffee and customer engagement.
C4 Coffee roasts up to 35 different varieties of coffee, providing a diverse selection that has garnered positive feedback from patrons. “We strive to offer a vast array of coffees, and the response has been amazing,” he noted.
In addition to variety, Oliver and his team prioritize equipping the café with the latest technology. “We are passionate about innovation in coffee,” he said. “As a business, we continue to invest in partnerships with leading equipment manufacturers like La Marzocco, Poursteady, and Loring to support the quality and expanding range of coffees we serve.”
As C4 Coffee approaches its 30th anniversary, the team remains focused on maintaining the quality of their offerings. “While the price of beans may rise, we are committed to not compromising on quality and will remain transparent about our products,” Oliver affirmed, ensuring that their dedication to excellence continues to brew strong in the community.
