Thailand’s burgeoning café scene is experiencing a wave of new businesses eager to tap into the increasing domestic coffee consumption, according to Kavin Kittiboonya, managing director of Kavin Intertrade and president of the Thai Exhibition Association. His remarks were made in anticipation of the ASEAN Café Show 2024, set to take place from October 24 to 27 at Hall EH103-104, Bitec Bang Na.
Now in its 18th year, the annual event will feature over 150 leading companies from countries including China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and Thailand, all showcasing their products and services under the theme “Total Café Solution.”
Recent data from the Smart Centre for the Food Industry and the Food Institute reveals a striking 15% annual increase in domestic coffee consumption, with the average Thai consuming approximately 300 cups of coffee each year. This surge translates to a market value exceeding 64.5 billion baht. Notably, “out-of-home” coffee consumption alone accounts for around 20 billion baht, indicating significant potential for further growth in both domestic consumption and coffee exports.
Comprehensive Solutions for Café Entrepreneurs
Kavin expressed growing confidence in Thailand’s coffee market, as evidenced by the continuous expansion of established café chains. This year’s ASEAN Café Show aims to serve as a comprehensive platform for business negotiations in coffee drinks, bakery items, ice cream, tea, and chocolate.
The event promises a “Total Café Solution” for manufacturers, importers, and distributors, featuring a wide array of products and services, including:
- Coffee machines, tea, coffee beans, syrups, and sweeteners.
- Bakery and ice cream equipment, such as dough kneaders, ovens, waffle makers, and gelato machines.
- Essential raw materials like cake decorating supplies, ice cream powder, creamer, and milk powder.
- Packaging solutions including cups and containers.
Kavin underscored the event’s significance for both new and established entrepreneurs seeking to refine their businesses.
Skill Development and Sustainability Initiatives
Beyond product showcases, the ASEAN Café Show will host nearly 50 activities in collaboration with government agencies, associations, and industry experts. These workshops and seminars are designed to equip participants with new skills and knowledge in various areas, including:
Coffee Brewing Techniques: Insights from the Thailand Ultimate Barista Championship and coffee cupping sessions.
Menu Development Workshops: Discovering innovative recipes and trends from renowned chefs.
Business Management Seminars: Strategies for effective business planning, supplier selection, customer experience enhancement, and operational technology.
Free Workshops: Sessions on baking, ice cream making, and chocolate trends led by field experts.
The event also emphasizes sustainability, integrating environmental, economic, and social considerations. This commitment is evident in the environmentally friendly packaging solutions exhibited and the distribution of recipes aimed at promoting income generation opportunities.
Anticipated Impact and Visitor Engagement
The ASEAN Café Show is expected to draw over 20,000 visitors from more than 30 countries and generate a turnover exceeding 500 million baht. Attendees who pre-register online will receive a complimentary three-hour parking pass.
Kavin noted the growing international interest in this year’s show, reflecting the expanding allure of the Thai coffee market. He highlighted the event’s pivotal role in supporting the café sector, fostering career development, and contributing to Thailand’s overall economic stability.
