Caffeine Lovers Unite: Better Buzz Opens New Café in Costa Mesa

by Jessica

Since its inception in 2002, Better Buzz Coffee Roasters has become a favorite among coffee enthusiasts in San Diego. Tim Langdon and Stephanie Garden launched the brand as a coffee cart, and it has since grown to nearly 20 locations throughout Southern California, primarily in the San Diego area, with additional outlets in Arizona. Recently, the company has focused on expanding its presence in Orange County, where it currently operates a location in San Clemente and a drive-through in Laguna Hills that opened earlier this year.

On October 11, Better Buzz opened a new café in Costa Mesa, marking a significant step in its Orange County expansion. A second location is planned for Fullerton.

The company roasts its own beans in small batches at its Vista facility and delivers fresh coffee to its stores weekly. Certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers, Better Buzz is committed to sourcing Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance coffees.

The atmosphere at the Costa Mesa café, characterized by its black-and-yellow decor, attracts a younger crowd, with groups of teens eagerly lining up for lattes. The café has been bustling, often with all tables occupied, and by late afternoon, only a few pastries remain in the display case, including kouign-amanns and croissants.

Better Buzz offers a variety of handcrafted beverages, including mint-infused iced coffee and single-origin espresso, complemented by a rotating selection of inventive drinks. Patrons can enjoy nitro cold brew and cinnamon cream cold brew on tap, along with tea-based options such as a lavender tea latte and the popular blueberry lavender lemonade, known as the BuzZinger. The café’s signature drink, dubbed the “Best Drink Ever,” is a classic Americano enhanced with creamy vanilla, available both iced and hot. Customers appreciate the smooth coffee flavor balanced with a subtler sweetness than expected.

To further connect with the local community, the Costa Mesa location is featuring exclusive beverages during its opening week, such as the “Blueberry Pancake Cold Brew” and “Lemon Meringue Buzz,” which combines vanilla coffee with yuzu puree.

In addition to its beverages, Better Buzz partners with Bakers Kneaded, a local bakery, to provide fresh pastries. The food menu includes a selection of heartier options, such as acai bowls, three-seed avocado toast, and various breakfast sandwiches and wraps.
