Growth investment firm Verdane has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Cropster, a software company specializing in coffee roasting solutions. This partnership aims to enhance innovation and growth within the coffee sector.

The collaboration is expected to leverage Cropster’s established success and strong customer relationships. It will also work to expand the company’s software offerings, drive growth, and solidify Cropster’s position as the leading operating system for the global coffee industry.

As a certified B Corporation, Cropster is committed to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. The company’s software solutions are designed to help coffee businesses minimize their environmental impact by improving efficiency throughout the entire value chain. This includes optimizing raw material usage and reducing waste and carbon dioxide emissions.

“Cropster’s software employs artificial intelligence during the roasting process, which significantly decreases the volume of over-roasted beans,” the company stated.

Additionally, Cropster’s technology assists market participants in navigating emerging regulatory frameworks, including the upcoming European Union deforestation regulation, and helps manage associated administrative challenges.

Verdane plans to support Cropster’s growth strategy, which encompasses mergers, acquisitions, and organic development. The two companies see significant opportunities arising from the increasing popularity of specialty coffee in mainstream markets like the United States and Europe, as well as a shift in tea-drinking countries across Asia toward coffee consumption.

This investment marks Verdane’s 11th in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) within the past year, and its fourth transaction in Austria, reflecting the region’s strong growth potential for businesses.

Ralph Karg, Director at Verdane, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Cropster’s team. “We look forward to contributing our in-house functional specialists, ecosystem, and expertise to build upon Cropster’s sustainable market-leading achievements and to collectively craft the next chapter in this remarkable growth story,” he stated.

Andreas Idl, CEO and Co-Founder of Cropster, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, noting the shared values between the two organizations. “We are confident in their software expertise and their capacity to navigate international markets, as evidenced by their impressive track record in buy-and-build strategies. Plus, they developed a passion for coffee very quickly,” he remarked.
