Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, a prominent coffee franchise known for its premium Hawaiian coffee and distinctive cafés, has announced a new three-store agreement in South Carolina. The first location is set to open in Rock Hill in mid-2025, followed by two additional stores in the York County area soon after.
This development marks a significant step in Bad Ass Coffee’s expansion within South Carolina, aiming to establish a vibrant presence in the region. The franchise plans to launch three locations in the Greater Charlotte area, which includes the northernmost part of South Carolina, catering to a community renowned for its coffee culture. As the company continues to grow its national footprint, it is keen to explore further expansion opportunities across South Carolina, capitalizing on the state’s rich coffee heritage and increasing demand for high-quality offerings.
Leading the expansion efforts in South Carolina are Doug Epperly, a coffee enthusiast with 30 years of experience in global supply chains and his daughter Abby, a University of Louisville graduate and current MBA student. Abby discovered Bad Ass Coffee while studying franchising at the university and shared her enthusiasm with Doug. Both were drawn to the brand’s family-oriented values and welcoming Aloha Spirit, and they are committed to creating a community hub where customers can relax and connect.
“We fell in love with Bad Ass Coffee not just because we’re huge coffee enthusiasts, but because of the brand’s commitment to building meaningful connections with guests,” Doug stated. “We believe in creating spaces where people can enjoy a great cup of coffee and feel like part of the family. The energy and values of Bad Ass Coffee are a perfect match for us, and we’re excited to introduce this one-of-a-kind experience to our community.”
The brand’s upward trajectory is underscored by its recent recognition on QSR’s 2023 40/40 List as one of America’s hottest emerging fast casual brands, attracting multi-unit operators eager to expand their portfolios.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the Epperlys to our Bad Ass Coffee ‘ohana,” said Scott Snyder, CEO of Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii. “From our first introduction, the balance of Epperly’s experience, energy, and passion made them a perfect fit to partner with us in spreading the spirit of Hawaii to South Carolina. The new location in Rock Hill, alongside our existing development in Myrtle Beach, reinforces our commitment to establishing a strong presence throughout the Carolinas,” Snyder added.
Bad Ass Coffee provides a robust support system for its franchisees, including teams, technology, and tools for identifying optimal territories for expansion, as well as expertise in financing, real estate, and construction management.
Founded on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1989, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii aims to share premium, American-grown Hawaiian coffee with customers nationwide. In addition to coffee sourced from the renowned Kona region, the franchise also features coffee from Kauai and Maui. The menu extends beyond premium coffee, offering a variety of blended drinks, signature lattes, cold brews, teas, innovative Hawaiian-inspired foods, and branded merchandise.
The brand is actively seeking qualified individuals interested in multi-unit franchise opportunities. With an investment range of $454,200 to $920,500, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii presents an affordable and scalable opportunity with strong profit potential. Additionally, as members of the International Franchise Association VetFran, the franchise offers a $10,000 discount off the initial franchise fee for veteran franchisees who join the network.
